Birgit Langhammer Winter Fairy TaleIf someone would pass by and ask our fairy what was going on lately, she would have replied with an absentminded glare in her eyes and her typical fine, singing voice: “Not much.” Maybe it was the wintertime, or the cold, or the rainy days that were not really conductive for our fairy and her usually venturesome nature. (It made me wonder: What do fairies do in the wintertime? Do they sleep or daydream cuddled up some place where it’s nice and cozy? Where would that be? Are there fairies that actually are invigorated by the wintertime, maybe snow fairies, ice crystal pixies and such? )

Maybe it just had been too many of those days, when one day seemed like another, that cast a peculiar spell over our fairy-being and spun a dull net of invisible, constricting threads over her usually quirky personality. But lately the sparkling fairy wings just sat in a corner of a dresser, minding their own business, collecting dust. Maybe, a true nature being like her couldn’t help but go along with the grand rhythm of Gaia. Maybe winter was just the time to go within, rest, and dream of the time when the sunrays would be stronger again and the air would be filled with all kind of flapping things and promising scents.
