photogravure.GoddessOfTheLilyPondPeople sometimes ask me: How does it feel when I see my own artwork displayed in a gallery. I mostly do not know exactly what to say. Actually it is somehow surreal. Like this time at the opening of the Print Houston show at the Rudolph Blume/ ArtScan Gallery at Richmond Rd. in Houston. My artwork hung in the second room that was adjunct to the main room of the gallery. Being a little smaller than the other rooms it was the perfect intimate space for my smaller scale Goddesses photo-gravures. Even though I am usually not into glamour and glitter I was glad that I had chosen the golden frames for my Goddesses that were mounted on a black backing. It was as if they would communicate with each other and even whisper into the ears of by-passers and onlookers.

In front of the gallery parked my friend’s Magda’s marvelous art car, and my family and I had a blast to pose next and in front of the art car and take some pictures. Inside I got immediately to chat with some visitors about my artwork and then with a very sweet lady who was particularly interested in one of my pieces. I don’t really know what’s more thrilling, to see my artwork on display in a public space or to connect with the people that feel drawn to my work. I realize then that my artwork has many more dimensions than I realize, and that it speaks to others in ways that can’t be traced with words or explained through the mind. And yet, both sides – the creator and the observer connect with that immanent message in their own ways, in the best outcome they feel inspired and uplifted, mostly without even knowing exactly why.
